When people ask what I do, and I tell them I’m a hypnotherapist, I can hear their inner dialogue.
“I wonder if I can be hypnotized. I wonder what it feels like to be put “under.” Am I under hypnosis now?” LOL 😂
My answer is YES! Yes, you can be hypnotized.
Being hypnotized doesn’t mean I lose control and do what you say or cluck like a chicken.
That’s not what I do. And if that’s what you picture, I get it. Most people have never seen real hypnosis. They’ve only seen entertainment.
So let me tell you what it actually is, what it feels like, and what it isn’t.
What hypnosis is
Hypnosis is a focused, deeply relaxed state where you can talk to the part of you that runs your habits.
You know the part I mean. The part that reaches for the chips, ice cream, or wine at 7 p.m. The part that walks to the pantry when you’re not even hungry. The part that holds you back right when things start working.
Your conscious mind is the goal-setter. Your subconscious mind is the goal-getter. Willpower lives in the first one. The pattern lives in the second. That’s why knowing you “should” know better hasn’t been enough.
Hypnosis is how we reach the second one. The goal-getter.
What it feels like
Most men and women are surprised by how normal it feels.
You’re lying down or sitting back with your eyes closed. You hear my voice the whole time. Your body gets heavy, like the moment right before you fall asleep on the couch. Your arms might feel warm or tingly. Your breathing slows down.
Some people see pictures. Some feel things in their body. Some just KNOW things. All of that counts.
And afterward, almost everyone says some version of the same thing: “I feel lighter. I feel relief. I’m surprised that I shared that story with you.”
Five myths I hear every week
1. “Will I be put under, asleep, or knocked out?”
You won’t. You’re aware the whole time. You can hear me, you can hear the dog bark outside, and you can open your eyes whenever you want.
2. “You can make me do things I don’t want to do.”
I can’t. Nobody can. Your subconscious only takes in what’s good for you and what you already want. You’re in charge the entire time.
3. “I can’t be hypnotized.”
You go into trance every day. You drive home or to work and don’t remember the drive. Getting lost in a book. Scrolling and looking up an hour later. Hypnosis uses that same natural state, on purpose.
4. “I’ll get stuck.”
There’s no such thing as stuck. The worst-case scenario is that you drift off into a nice, relaxing state that may feel like a nap and wake up rested.
5. “It’s woo-woo.”
It’s one of the most practical tools I know. Women come to me for cravings, emotional eating, vaping, sports performance, money, love relationships, and the patterns they’ve been fighting for years. We go to the root of what’s driving it. Then they go home with a recording to listen to every night for 21 days. It’s in their hands.
The first time I was hypnotized
I was a health coach carrying 15 pounds that would not move. I’d done everything right. The food, the workouts, the plans.
The first time I was led into hypnosis, I finally understood what was behind all my snacking and overeating. I didn’t feel safe. The weight was protecting me. I went back to when I was seven, then five, and I let go of something I’d been carrying since I was a little girl.
The weight came off after that. And I stopped writing meal plans for a living.
That’s what hypnosis did for me. Not magic. Understanding, all the way to the root.
Want to feel it for yourself?
Work with me 1:1 on Zoom. We’ll find what’s been driving the pattern, and you’ll leave with a recording made just for you. Send me a message and I’ll get you more information.
Hypnosis is a powerful tool for change and works alongside your medical and mental health care, not in place of it.
With love,
Monica
P.S. A few of you messaged me this week about soul contracts. Yes, I go there. Soul retrieval and soul contracts are part of the deeper work I do, and that’s next week’s post. Tell me in the comments what you want to know, and I’ll answer it there.
