2010 will be about remembering the teaching of my past. I will be writing about experiences of the early 2000’s, as I realize that I’ve been studying yoga for over a decade. I recall my first practices of yoga. They were uplifting and I quickly felt the lightness in my body. I felt a fullness for life. I did not jump on the band wagon very quickly. I was a student that would flow in and out of classes. I was not quite sure what style was right for me. I now see that all styles are perfect for me. I’ve learned something from Iyengar, Hatha, Vinyasa, Prana Flow, and Anusara yoga. I’m very blessed to have to studied with so many wonderful teachers. I will continue to study and learn and share my teachings with everyone.

Yoga helps us balance our life. In my early days of becoming a yogini, I was also a triathlete, college graduate and soon to be a wife.  I did yoga on Sundays. It was like a holy day for me.  I spent most of my weekdays learning new skills and riding my mountain bike with my friends. I was not ready to sit in the still. I was going Constantly. The awesome thing about yoga is that it is always there for you. You can grab a yoga mat and practice at any time. The hardest part for the beginners mind is what to do?

This week try to open up your yoga mat at home or at a studio or club. Sit in a comfortable position and open up to the known. Let your heart feel the energies all around you. Then come onto your hands and knees and play in cat/cow. You’ll know when your body is ready for downward dog. Take each breath as it comes and flow with it. You’ll soon be moving into your first sun salutation and then you’ll continue on to some standing poses or sitting poses. The best part is that you get decide what to do.

Let yourself look inside this month. There is no other place to look. Everything you have is already within you.

If you are a beginner, welcome to a year of changes and awakenings. If you are an experienced practitioner, what did you awaken to last year?
